The short answer
SomRatri is now writing on X Articles alongside our web journal. We share our monthly full-moon dates, Delhi moonrise timings, and honest field notes from our overnight gatherings.
In brief: SomRatri is an alcohol-free overnight gathering in Delhi that happens only once a month around the full moon (Purnima). Held at a quiet retreat farmhouse away from city noise, each gathering brings people together for live acoustic kirtan, barefoot dancing on terracotta courtyard tiles, midnight chai by the fire, sound bowls under the moon, and morning sunrise.
Why we gather only on the full moon
In Delhi, life moves fast. Traffic, long work hours, constant screens, and city rush keep your nervous system on high alert.
Most people rarely look up at the sky. We stay indoors under fluorescent lights and blue screens, completely disconnected from natural cycles.
The full moon (Purnima) has always been a natural marker for pause, reflection, and gathering. In ancient traditions, Soma represents the cooling, calming, and restorative nectar of the moon, the opposite of the exhausting daytime heat.
SomRatri was created to honor that monthly lunar pause. Once every month, when the moon is at its brightest over Delhi, we leave behind the noise, the crowded bars, and the screens to spend an entire night awake together under the open sky.
What happens during the full-moon night
We gather at a private retreat farmhouse in Delhi, tucked away among green trees where the sky is wide and open.
The gathering begins at 8:00 PM as the full moon rises and runs through 8:00 AM until morning sunrise. Guests can choose between two ways to experience the night:
Part 1: The full moon evening (8:00 PM to 12:44 AM)
Included with both the Half Night Pass and Overnight Pass:
- Hosted welcome at 8:00 PM: You walk in through the farmhouse gates under the rising moon. Whether you come solo or with a friend, the hosts welcome you so you feel settled immediately.
- Community dinner at 9:00 PM: Fresh, warm vegetarian dinner eaten unhurriedly on carpets and floor cushions.
- Live acoustic kirtan at 9:45 PM: Handpans, flutes, tanpura, and group singing under soft lights. No loud amplifiers or party tracks, just live acoustic melodies that help everyone slow down.
- Barefoot courtyard dance at 11:30 PM: Dancing freely on terracotta courtyard tiles with marigold petals under the open moonlight. No choreography, no cameras, no alcohol, no judgement.
- Half Night wrap-up at 12:44 AM: For guests heading home to sleep in their own beds, the evening wraps up after the dance.
Part 2: Through the moonlit night (12:44 AM to 8:00 AM)
For guests staying overnight under the moon:
- Midnight chai and baithak at 1:15 AM: Sitting around the warm hearth with hot spiced chai and unhurried conversations under the night sky.
- Singing bowls and sound bath at 2:30 AM: Tibetan singing bowls in the open courtyard while the rest of Delhi is asleep. Total stillness and vibration under the full moon.
- Full Moon Inner Circle at 3:45 AM: A moonlit circle of reflection where people speak honestly from the heart without pretense.
- Community games and shared rest at 5:00 AM: A quiet, comfortable space to wind down, play gentle games, or sleep.
- Sunrise over the grass (6:30 AM to 8:00 AM): Watching the morning light spread over the grass, sipping fresh tea, and heading home feeling grounded and renewed.
Two rules: substance-free and open to solo guests
- Substance-free: No alcohol, no smoking, no substances. It is remarkable how much joy and connection people experience dancing and laughing when everyone is present and clear-headed.
- Come solo or together: Most people come alone. You do not need a group to feel comfortable; the space is hosted so nobody feels left out.
